Domain 1 · Ethics — what to expect

· 3 materials

Apply legislation and the Code of Ethics to scenarios. Practise choosing and explaining a defensible response.

Legislation & Mandatory Reporting Map — The National Law, privacy and health-records duties, mental-health provisions (involuntary treatment, informed consent), and duty-to-protect / duty-to-report triggers — with the state-by-state variations the exam expects you to navigate.

The Code of Ethics, Applied — The endorsed Code of Ethics and Board guidelines worked through exam-style scenarios — the general principles and standards as decision rules, not abstractions.

Professional Issues, Supervision & Self-Care — Continuing professional development, self-reflection and self-management, and the role of supervision and peer consultation — framed for the way the exam tests professional judgment.

Domain 2 · Assessment — what to expect

· 5 materials

Four materials cover tests and formulation. A fifth covers common presentations. Practise selecting and interpreting tests.

The Six Core Tests — WAIS-IV, WISC-IV, PAI, DASS, K-10 and SDQ — purpose, normative basis, scoring logic, and interpretation cautions for the six tests examined in depth. Structure and reasoning only; no copyrighted item content.

Wider Test Familiarity Grid — Use and purpose of the broader battery — intelligence, memory, personality, vocational and mental-health screening instruments the curriculum expects you to recognise.

Mental State Examination & Risk — A structured MSE and the assessment of acute and chronic risk — suicide, self-harm, and harm to others — at the level a generally registered psychologist is expected to perform.

Common Problems — Essential Features — The curriculum’s named psychological problems summarised at the essential-feature level — referring to the current DSM and ICD as the authoritative diagnostic sources, never reproducing their criteria.

Formulation — Data to Hypotheses — Generating and testing hypotheses to build a dynamic understanding of a presentation — the reasoning the Assessment domain rewards.

Domain 3 · Interventions — what to expect

Match intervention models and techniques to common presentations. Review pharmacology fundamentals.

Counselling Micro-Skills — Establishing the therapeutic relationship and alliance, active listening, empathic responding, reflection, questioning, summarising, and managing endings.

Evidence-Based Models & When to Use Them — Cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic and interpersonal, family-systems and ecological, and humanistic / narrative / solution-focused approaches — what each is for and when it fits.

Psychopharmacology Foundations — Drug classification and the pharmacokinetic / pharmacodynamic basics a psychologist needs to collaborate and refer safely — not to prescribe.

Specific Techniques by Problem — Psychoeducation and motivational interviewing, exposure, behavioural activation, relaxation, skills training, and relapse prevention — matched to the common problems in the Assessment domain.

Domain 4 · Communication — what to expect

Practise record keeping, report writing for different audiences and health-system navigation.

Record Keeping that Meets the Standard — Record-keeping that satisfies professional, organisational, ethical, and legislative requirements — the specifics the Communication domain tests.

Report Writing Across Contexts — Writing for different audiences — health professionals, legal and insurance contexts, employers — with the clarity, accuracy, and succinctness expected.

Referral & the Health-Care System — Referral procedures, the roles of other professionals across levels of care, and the health-care system structures a psychologist works within.
